n Manilla Lions Club is hosting a pork chop dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at their community building in Manilla. Adults, $8; children 12 and under, $4.
SATURDAY (8/29)
n The premier A Walk for Alex will be Saturday. Registration for the autism awareness 5K walk will be from 8 to 9 a.m. with the walk from 9 to 11 a.m. starting at the Rush County Fairgrounds. All proceeds will go into an ongoing endowment fund that has been set up at the Rush County Community Foundation to help aid families in Rush County that have autistic children. Preregister by Aug. 1 to be guaranteed a shirt. May also register on day of walk. Fees: Walk only $5, walk and T-shirt $15, family includes two T-shirts $25, each additional T-shirt $10. n There will be a benefit ride to help raise money for improvements as well as new equipment in McNabb Park in Carthage Saturday. The event is being held in memory of Crysten and Jett Williams, a mother and son killed in an auto accident on I-70 earlier this year. Sign-up begins at 9 a.m. at the Pit Stop in Carthage. Last bike leaves at 11:30 a.m. Ride will conclude at the Hall residence, 11961 N. Goose Road, Knightstown where there will be a hog roast, benefit action, live band and cash bar. n American Legion Family Day will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Rushville Riverside Park. Music, games, food and drinks. Entertainment includes the Bustin’ Loose Band, Away From Angus and Public Disturbance. Open to one and all!
n Blue River Community Harvest, Rush County’s newest food pantry, will host a summer festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 9462 N. Carthage Pike. Admission is one can of food per person. Crafts, food, games, dunk tank, pie eating contest and silent auction among what’s planned. Booth space available for $10.
