Rotary learns about new 211 service

President Norm Voiles conducted Tuesday’s meeting of the Rushville Rotary Club. Markus Strobl led the Pledge of Allegiance and Kevin Snyder gave the invocation.

Filling in for program chair Christy Welch was Markus Strobl, who presented Anita Williams of the Area 9 In-Home and Community Services of Richmond, which serves the Rush County area. She gave a brief highlight of the Area 9 services which includes home health aids, meals on wheels, care giver services, volunteer programs, adult protective services, home-based care services, ombudsman services and the new 211 program. The Area 9 program was formed in 1969 as a result of the Older Americans Act and is funded in part by the United Way and federal tax dollars. The Area 9 organization, of which there are 16 areas serving Indiana, serves both the elderly and disabled citizens in our area.

The speaker announced that David Free has recently been hired to help with service coordination and help find other programs in the area to serve the citizens by way of the new 211. The 211 program allows a person to dial 211 on their phone and get information on services available in the area to the elderly and disabled. More on this program will be announced in the near future. For questions concerning Area 9 and the many programs they offer call Anita Williams at 765-966-1795. Many thanks for this very interesting program.

The Mystery Person this week was Kevin Snyder, who quickly gave the free meal to Chip West upon his return from the Main Street Christian Church mission trip. Congratulations, Chip, and great job to all involved in your recent efforts.

Brags for the day included: Bill Griffis on his and Sherri's 26th wedding anniversary July 11.

Dr. Fred Philips on his and Wanda's 31st wedding anniversary coming up on July 23.

Jason Clemmons on the kind words, cards, food and support during their recent need with Heidi's mother.

Chip West bragged on the wonderful mission trip and the outstanding young people in our community, on his sons allowing him to participate with them in their 3 on 3 basketball team tourney of which their team won, and on getting together in the next few years a mission trip to Rush County from those who serve outside of our area in mission trips.

John Worth bragged on Dr. Fred Philips, who saved John's dog several years back and allowed John to enjoy many years with his dog until recently.

Finally, Markus Strobl bragged on his parents getting back to Germany safely and on the volunteer soccer practice season that is underway again.

Secretary Bill Ward reported that Dr. Fred Philips made up in Richmond recently.

It was announced that the Rotary scholarship winners will be present Aug. 5 when Gerald Mohr will present them with their checks as they head off to school for the new year.

Dr. John Williams, our “quarter master,” fined Cathy Lienemann for not knowing the answer to his Reader's Digest riddle. Bill Todd was fined for his birthday on July 4. All who have not taken a vacation yet this year were also penalized.
