Rush County Community Foundation elects new board members

The Rush County Community Foundation Board of Directors recently elected a new board member to replace Marcia Schwering, who completed her term in December 2009. David Burkhardt graciously accepted the opportunity to serve on the Foundation board. His term began Jan. 1.

Burkhardt works for Falmouth Farm Supply. He has lived in Rush County for 51 years and he and his wife, Debra, live in the Glenwood area. They have four grown children, Chris and his wife Katie live in Rushville; Andrew lives in Lafayette; Katie lives in Bloomington, Ill.; Sarah and granddaughter Rylie live in southern Rush County. A member of Glenwood United Methodist Church, he enjoys being with his family, camping and wine making. He also is an active member of the Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department and assists with 4-H projects.

When asked why he agreed to serve on the Foundation board he said “I was very surprised and honored to be asked to serve the Foundation. It does so many things to help our students and community through scholarships and grants. I, too, love to help our community and I look forward to following the Foundation’s mission of helping the people of Rush County.”

Amy Meyer Ploeger, president of the board said, “We are sad that Marcia’s term expired. She has been a very active board member, chair of our Community Awareness Committee and served on various other committees. At the same time we are very excited to have David as a new member of our Board of Directors. His background will bring fresh ideas and leadership to help guide the Foundation as we look to the future.”

In its 18th year of meeting the philanthropic needs of Rush County, The Rush County Community Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit public charity established to serve donors, award grants and scholarships, and provide leadership to enrich and enhance the quality of life in Rush County.
