White Water Canal to host Spooky Halloween Cruises

State historic site celebrates Halloween with night cruises aboard the Ben Franklin III

METAMORA - Come join Whitewater Canal State Historic Site as it celebrates Halloween on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and enjoy a ride on the horse-drawn canal boat Ben Franklin III as spooky storytelling and other family-friendly activities take place.

"This is a fun getaway for younger kids and the family," said Historic Site Event Manager Anne Fairchild. "The best part is that participants get into the spirit of the holiday by dressing up in costumes, which adds to the sights and sounds along the canal route."

While onboard the famous canal boat, guests will hear the dramatic retelling of Little Orphant Annie by Hoosier author James Whitcomb Riley as well as other spine-tingling tales told by professional storytellers. After the ride, kids will receive their trick-or-treat candy and have a chance to check out the rest of Metamora.

Tickets are $5 per person. Boat rides start at 7:30 p.m. and depart in 30-minute intervals. The last canal boat ride leaves the dock at 9 p.m.

The Oct. 19 event is done in conjunction with the city's popular walking tour Haunted Village, which is sponsored by Metamora Merchant Association. The Oct. 26 event is done in conjunction with Metamora's Safe Trick-or-Treating downtown.
