St. Joe Festival underway in Shelbyville

RUSHVILLE — The carnival rides, games and food booths are back for another year at the St. Joseph Parish Spring Festival on the corner of Broadway and Noble Streets in Shelbyville. The festival kicked off Thursday and runs through Saturday night. The annual fried chicken dinner will continue Sunday following the festival at the Knights of Columbus.

All of the favorite features of the St. Joe Festival are back again this year, including a great selection of carnival rides provided by Poor Jacks Amusements.

The festival fun spills out into the streets as Noble Street at Broadway will be closed for the weekend to accommodate a variety of children’s games and activities.

While the rides and games wrap up on Saturday night, the Dlux Chicken Dinner Sunday, May 19 at the Knights of Columbus (413 E. South Street) will be the official “wrap-up” of this year’s festival. Food will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Saturday night live music entertainment is moving down the street this year to the Knights of Columbus. Big Poppy Band, consisting of five local musicians who share a love of live music, will take the stage at 9 p.m. May 18. Cover is $5 at the door and doors open at 8 p.m. This is for those 21 years of age and older.

To wrap-up an exciting weekend of festival events, festival organizers draw for the winners of its annual raffle (license # 131011), with a top prize of $1,000, at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 19. Other prizes offered include $500 cash, a ladies sterling silver matching dangle drop pierced earrings and pendant with black and white diamonds valued at $410 donated by Sanders Jewelry and a $100 Mathies Landscaping gift certificate.  Tickets ($1 each) can be purchased during the festival and at the Sunday chicken dinner.
