Briar Patch Players present “Rushville is the place to be”

Saturday, Sunday and Monday shows

RUSHVILLE — Briar Patch Players deliver audiences a time-honored treat this weekend with their annual show “Rushville is the place to be” to keep audiences laughing and cool during the hot days at the Rush County Fair.

Briar Patch Players summer theater program will present their annual show about life in Rush County at the Laughlin Center for the Performing Arts Saturday, Sunday and Monday, June 22 to 24. Show times are 5 and 7 p.m. June 22; 3, 5 and 7 p.m. June 23; 5 and 7 p.m. June 24.

Ticket prices are $2 for students, $5 for adults or a $12 ticket will get you into all shows.

Briar Patch has a long tradition of fun and not so traditional antics about Rush County’s past and “news worthy” items during the past year. Briar Patch is directed by Jennie Tague and will feature a large cast of RCHS students.

“It’s hard to believe this is the 23rd season for Rushville’s Briar Patch Players. The good news, the theatre troupe is as strong as ever with over

40 student participants ready to give you some great shows at the start of fair week this June,” Tague said.

A portion of all donations through sponsors are given each year to the Rush County Community Foundation to help fund the Jeff Hufford and Marcia Blair Scholarships. The late Hufford and Blair’s leadership of Briar Patch throughout the years cemented this annual show in the hearts and memories of more than a few from Rush County.

The newest installment won’t disappoint, with student leadership and talent that will entertain and amaze.

Briar Patch honors four very special people with four stars in memory of Marcia Blair, Jeff Hufford, and Bob and Emy Waggener. Participating 2013 graduates will also be honored as part of this show.

Not to give too much away about the wild and wily plots in this year’s show, but there is a culprit afoot in Rushville and it has a white stripe down its back and a lingering odor. Have you noticed them? And then, those ever adorable pigs make a return visit this year; however, area farmers are at a loss when faced with swine literacy of the order that keeps pigs from eating and noses buried in a controversial book. Stop by this year’s Briar Patch show for more inside scoop.

Don’t miss the opportunity to help support this grand tradition in Rush County. Your support is needed and appreciated by all involved and Briar Patch is sure to keep you laughing during the upcoming seven shows.
