Famous film comes to Beef & Boards in "Father of the Bride"

The sweet sound of wedding bells is a welcome jingle to the bride-to-be. That is not always the case for the ladies’ father. That is definitely true for Stanley Banks as he unwillingly becomes “Father of the Bride” at Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre.

The famous film is now being played out on stage at Beef & Boards through Sept. 29. This comedy will be enjoyed by those planning on ensuing nuptials and those that have been through the grand experience of planning a wedding.

The conundrum for Stanley Banks is that he still sees his daughter as his little pigtailed girl. That young girl had Stanley wrapped around her finger and now an engagement rings has replaced him.

Although a small wedding is promised to start, the guest list quickly grows out of control and Stanley’s life is a whirlwind of phone calls, caterers, florists, furniture movers and dressmakers…not to mention total turmoil.

What else could be put on Stanley’s plate? Worst case scenario as Kay calls off the wedding and ending the happily ever after story before the first chapter is even scripted.

Now it is up to Stanley to pull it all back together and give his little girl the day of her dreams.

Based on the novel by Edward Streeter, Father of the Bride was made famous through the 1950 film starring Spencer Tracy, Joan Bennett and Elizabeth Taylor, and later with the 1991 film starring Steve Martin, Diane Keaton and Kimberly Williams.

Jeff Stockberger plays the role of stressed father Stanley Banks in Beef & Boards’ production of Father of the Bride. Kristin Lennox plays his wife, Mrs. Banks, while Lisa Ermel plays the role of the bride, Kay Banks.

Rounding out the cast are Joseph Mervis as Kay’s brother, Tommy; Ben Tebbe as the groom, Buckley Dunstan; Ivory McKay as the flamboyant wedding planner Mr. Massoula; Deb Wims as Mr. Banks’ secretary, Ms. Bellamy, and Sandra Belles as Massoula’s assistant, Butch.

Those in attendance will appreciate the comedy and the adaptation to give this production an Indiana feel, referring to Carmel, Terre Haute and the famous loop of Indy, I-465.
