9 to 5 The Musical is full of laughs

Onstage now at Beef & Boards

RUSHVILLE — Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre’s current production of 9 to 5 The Musical does a surprisingly good job of mirroring the 1980 hit film 9 to 5.

Country music legend Dolly Parton, who starred in that film, even has direct involvement (of sorts) in the ongoing play at B&B. (By way of a large video screen, she introduces the show’s main characters and helps wrap the story up at the end of the performance.)

In short, this show is about three secretaries in a large corporate office and their sexist, opinionated, bigoted, crooked boss. The show is set in the late 1970s when Big Business in America was still dominated by men and women were supposed to “remember their place.”

The ladies conspire to take control of the company, and kidnap the boss in the process.

Broadway performer Annie Edgerton stars as head secretary Violet Newstead. B&B veteran Sarah Hund plays new girl Judy Bernly. Lafayette native Crystal Mosser, a lovely and talented addition to the Beef & Board family, handles the part of Doralee Rhodes (played by Parton in the film version.)

These ladies, as well as Andrew Lebon, who plays the boss, do a great job, as does the rest of the cast.

This show is funny.

The songs are upbeat and catchy.

The overall production is very good.

For anyone who likes good, live theater and a delicious meal I highly recommend 9 to 5 The Musical.

This show, which continues through March 24, is rated PG-13 for language and some minor adult content.

For reservations call the Beef & Boards’ box office at 317-872-9664 or visit www.beefandboard.com.

Beef & Boards is located at 9301 N. Michigan Road, Indianapolis.
