Director N. Ruth Brown and Musical Director Jon Hudnall are seeking singer/actors to audition for Richmond Civic Theatre’s upcoming production of Les Misérables, opening Aug. 16, 2013 at the historic Murray Theatre at 10th and Main Streets in Richmond. To bring this moving and beautiful masterpiece to life requires singers who can perform the music accurately and powerfully while simultaneously conveying the emotions, intentions and stories of the characters they portray. While importance will also be placed on diction, intonation and vocal stamina, casting decisions will ultimately be based on how well the actor combines all the elements to create an expressive and compelling character.
Because of the expectation that this well-loved work will attract many area actors, the audition days will be character-specific and will be spread out over several days, beginning on May 12. Auditions times are pre-scheduled with information available at www.richmondcivictheatre.org
Both lead and ensemble roles are available for mature, experienced actor/singers from age 16 up. In addition, there are roles for a boy and girl, age 6 and up.
Anticipating a large group of talented performers at auditions, Ruth and Jon ask that folks come prepared as follows:
Arrive ½ hour before the scheduled audition time on one of the designated evenings for the character(s) for which you are auditioning. See additional pages for character descriptions and character-specific audition times and dates.
Prepare and practice the indicated sections of the musical selection(s) for that character(s). You may prepare more than the selection(s) if you wish, but time and numbers will determine if we will be able to hear more.
Bring a copy of your theatrical and musical biographical information, listing your training and experience.
Be prepared for call-backs during the week of May 19.
Bring your personal calendar information for June, July and August, including any regularly-scheduled commitments, vacation plans and other potential conflicts during the rehearsal and production period.
Beginning after Memorial Day, rehearsals typically run Sunday – Thursday evenings until the week of opening night. Beginning July 21, actors will be asked to be available for all rehearsals.
Performance dates: Aug. 16, 17, 23. 24, 30, and 31 at 7:30 p.m. and August 18 and 25 at 2 p.m.
Audition materials may be obtained at RCT Tuesday – Friday, from 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. or downloaded from the website at www.richmondcivictheatre.org.
Materials include: Audition Forms, Audition Selections and Character Descriptions.
Copies of sheet music are not downloadable and must be obtained in person from the office.
Those new to RCT are asked to complete a Volunteer Information Form.
It is recommended that those auditioning pick up or print forms and complete them before arriving at auditions so that the forms are complete, accurate and legible!
