About Leftover Salmon: The sound of Colorado’s legendary Leftover Salmon is unmistakable: fluid, loose-limbed and simultaneously rootsy and daring. The origins of Leftover Salmon are as intriguing as their name. The group was born in Boulder, Colorado in 1989, as the result of a merger between Vince Herman from Cajun/Calypso/jugband The Salmonheads, and Drew Emmitt and Mark Vann of the progressive bluegrass Left Hand String Band. Looking back over the past 25 years of rootsy, Americana, string-based music, the impact of Leftover Salmon is impossible to deny. The group was one of the first bluegrass bands to add drums and tour rock and roll bars, helping Salmon become a pillar of the jam band scene and unwitting architects of the jam grass genre.

Leftover Salmon delivered its debut album Brides to Bert in 1993 and followed with the live album Ask The Fish in 1995. In 1997 the band released what many consider to be the definitive Salmon record, Euphoria. The band would go on to release four more albums, each unique in its own way, none more so than 1999’s The Nashville Sessions, which placed Salmon alongside some of its biggest influences and most beloved colleagues. If Salmon had never played another show after the devastating death of banjo player/co-founder Mark Vann in 2002, the band’s legacy would have been secure. However, more than two decades after Salmon first took shape, the band has released Aquatic Hitchhiker within the last few years, added banjo player, Andy Thom, and has a new lease on an old agreement.
