The Hoosier Gym in Knightstown will host a Dinner and a Movie on Saturday, Nov. 10, beginning at 6 p.m. Dubbed “Raise the Roof.” The benefit will kick off the Hoosier Gym Community Center’s efforts to raise funds for a new roof over the lobby of the 90-year-old facility. A pork dinner will be prepared by Mark and Sheri Tompkins of Tompkins’ BBQ.
Following dinner, guests will turn their attention to a full-size movie screen provided by Draper Inc., on which the movie “Hoosiers” will be show in Blu-ray format. In addition to the 1896 feature, which was filmed in Knightstown’s 1920s gym, seldom-seen deleted scenes and outtakes will be show. Climactic moments of the 1954 Indiana High school basketball championship game between Milan and Muncie Central, the inspiration for the David-vs.-Goliath film, will also be shown.
Tickets cost $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and younger. Tickets are on sale at the Hoosier Gym, Knightstown Chamber of Commerce, MidCountry Media, Americana Bank (Knightstown), Citizens State Bank (Knightstown), Main Source Bank (Knightstown) and the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in News Castle. The event is sponsored by MidCountry Media Inc., publisher of FarmWorld, AntiqueWeek and the Auction Exchange and Collectors News.
