A nasty storm cell swept through the Rush County area right at the time that Vicky Richmond and her band kicked off last Saturday night’s Riverside Park concert with sultry jazz, but that didn't keep the crowds away.
The night also got another lucky break when a second storm cell decided to go north, rather than rain on concert-goers, leaving them with an enjoyable night of music.
Vicky Richmond and her ensemble of accomplished musicians wowed crowds with tunes like "Steppin' Out With My Baby," as well as some Cole Porter and Diana Krall thrown into the mix. Richmond, in a stunning beaded red dress, certainly got the night off to a great start and developed a new fan base in Rush County.
The Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra headlined the evening. The 17 outstanding professional instrumentalists and two vocalists who visited Rush County for the evening impressed crowds with everything from Frank Sinatra to George Gershwin, recreating music that has withstood the test of time.
The next concert will be July 12 at the amphitheater with Rush County's own Wes Miller Band, Josh Mahoney and Second Chance and headliner Off the Wagon. The show starts at 6:30 p.m.
