Historic Knightstown Walking Tour set for May 24

For the Republican

The month of May is Historic Preservation Month. The DNR-Division of Historic Preservation and Archeology (DHPA) and Gov. Mitch Daniel’s new fitness initiative, INShape, are teaming up to bring awareness of the historical richness of Indiana and getting the exercise we need at the same time with a series of walking tours around our State.

The Knightstown Chamber of Commerce and Historic Knightstown, Inc. are proud to announce that we are one of the communities in our state participating in the walks. We will have our “Historic Knightstown Walking Tour” with registration between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. May 24 at the town square located on North Washington St. and U.S. 40. Walking Tour maps can be picked up there. The tour is free. We also will have a DNR-DHPA staff person available to answer any questions that you may have.

The in-town walking tour total distance is approximately 3.5 miles. Additional historic property tours outside of the town limits are approximately 5.4 miles and can be driven if preferred. This is not a “set” tour and you may pick and choose which places you would like to see and at your leisure. You may pre-register if you wish on the Knightstown Chamber’s Web site at: www.knightstownchamber.org.

This is an excellent opportunity for everyone to become more familiar with Knightstown, its history and architecture, what our town has to offer and getting the exercise we need all at the same time. If you have additional questions, you may visit our Web site at www.knightstownchamber.org or www.in.gov.
