Critic’s Corner: "Ocean Eyes" is happy-go-lucky album

Owl City "Ocean Eyes" has to be the most happy-go-lucky albums I have ever listened too. If I am ever in a bad mood or feeling down Owl City always makes me feel better about life. Lead singer Adam Young has a soft beautiful voice that sucks you in. It is also nice to see him team up with Matt Thiessen of the music group Relient K. The album is jam-packed with layers of synthesizers that is pleasant but takes some time getting used to. The big hit "Fireflies" starts off very lullaby-esque before breaking into some powerful lyrics: "I’d like to make myself believe that the planet earth turns slowly. It’s hard to say that I’d rather stay awake when I’m asleep because my dreams are busting at the seams." The rest of "Ocean Eyes" tends to be a little redundant but overall this is a solid record.

The Crazy Heart soundtrack is another big winner for producer T-Bone Burnett. He has brought us Grammy award winning music like O Brother, Where Art Thou soundtrack and the Robert Plant/Alison Krauss collaboration. Burnett has found another surprising country music star in Jeff Bridges. Bridges does an excellent job as a broken-down country singer named Bad Blakes. The soundtrack opens up with "Hold On You" by Bridges and continues through classic songs from Buck Owens, Waylon Jennings and Louvin Brothers. The album closes out with hot new artist Ryan Bingham’s theme song for the film "The Weary Kind" which just won Bringham the Golden Globe award. The biggest surprise has to be Collin Farrell who sings "Gone, Gone, Gone." He might sound better than most of the country artist to come out lately. You will be so surprised how incredible this soundtrack is and how popular it gets in 2010.
