Sir Walter Scott is credited with saying in Rob Roy that “time waits for no man.”
Rush County Economic & Community Development Corporation Executive Director Greg Griffin tendered his letter of resignation in late May.
A June 20 Rushville Republican story quoted ECDC board president Tim Yazel as saying the organization had already received some “very qualified applications,” yet the local ECDC director position remains vacant more than two months later.
In the meanwhile, officials of the Honda plant in Greensburg released information regarding its application process and Honda suppliers interested in locating near Decatur County have made no announcements regarding plans for Rush County.
Might such an announcement have been made if Rush County had someone soliciting potential employers to locate here? That question can’t be answered with any certainty, but if no one is laying out the welcome mat Rush County’s odds of landing some new industry are unquestionably reduced.
There’s an old proverb, “Opportunity only knocks once.”
We have to wonder, given the lack of a director at the Rush County ECDC, if opportunity does comes knocking anytime soon will someone will be there to answer the door?
