Greetings, one and all, and welcome! I’ll keep it brief, but do have one quick item before we check correspondence.
n It’s Homecoming Week at RCHS and there will be a community parade and pep session this evening to help fire up the Lions. As was reported earlier this week, the parade will leave the high school football field and make its way to Riverside Park where it will conclude at the amphitheater.) This annual event has taken place on the north side of the courthouse for many years, but because of road construction on East Second Street that’s not possible this year.)
I encourage each and every one of you reading this to join the crowd at the amphitheater shortly after 8 p.m. It’s the sort of community activity that helps make Rushville a great place to live and work.
With that, let’s check the mail and see what’s up with The Roiling Hundreds!

n A friend is someone who reaches for your hand but touches your heart.
n Those who think Bush has done a good job better think again, we’re headed towards another Black Monday.
n When you borrow money pay it back, even if it’s only $1 or $5 at a time. It’s wrong to ask for a loan and then not repay it. Never loan money to family or friends. (When family or friend asks me for a small loan I just tell them it’s a gift. That way I don’t expect repayment and there’s no chance of hard feelings later. kg)
n There is no egg in eggplant or ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. (Thanks for clearing all of that up. kg)
n I moved back to Rushville after being gone several years only to find houses for sale and businesses leaving. Just since I’ve been back seven businesses have gone out. I pray that this small town finds a way to survive.
n Raves to your good newspaper! (Thanks. kg)
n I recently came back to the Moscow settlement where I was born and raised. When I was a child I played in the now gone covered bridge and went to school in the almost gone school. To us, Moscow was ours. To my surprise I found that nothing has been done to the church that I attended. So many memories of Bible School and plays. I heard the remark, “It’s just a building.” Well, to us Moscow originals it’s more than just a building. I look around and most everyone has finished their own repairs but there sets our church, nothing done yet. I would hope the congregation gets together and corrects this situation soon.
n Small towns can be great. My daughter recently went through cancer surgery and now chemo — the people at her job are great! They took it on themselves for a couple of weeks after her surgery to provide a meal every night. That is a big deal for someone with four kids. Nobody asked them to do this, they just did it. Thanks so much, you will never know how much that was appreciated.
n So RES somehow gets the short end of the stick, and it is the one with the most students! If Milroy and the county want the Milroy school so bad, they should widen the streets themselves. Why should Rushvillians pay for widening their streets? School board, you better make this farce right.
n I believe four more years of war and a declining opinion of the United States on the international level is not the best for my family. I believe that will almost certainly be the case should McCain be voted the next president of the U.S.
