n Just a reminder about Saturday evening’s free concert in Riverside Park (Rushville’s south side). The show starts at 7 p.m. with Bhama Llama. Toy Factory will follow.
The Rushville Republican is pleased to help sponsor the summer concert series. Hope to see a large crowd on hand.
With that said, it’s time to check the mailbag. Let’s hear it from The Roiling Hundreds!

n I know it’s hard for some of you to believe, especially if you buy the conventional wisdom of the media, but some of us do believe the Iraq war was and is the right thing to do! I think we should build permanent military bases there. To have a presence like that, right in the middle of the root of terrorism, may well save many American lives in the future. Besides, we are fighting Al Qaeda there, isn’t that what we want? Bush will go down in history as a visionary and a great president.
n Why are the kids in this county victimized when in trouble? From what I hear, justice in this county is to take troubled teens to horrible rehabs. As a result, they come home a lot worse and bitter. There are better places to send these kids. The system needs to do more research; I have. Breaking the spirit of young people is not right!
n Thanks for the column, KG. You’re top gun! I get so angry with myself because I forget how political this town is. If you have a certain name you are rejected. I try and have tried but am and was turned away at every turn. That’s why I left and why I should have stayed away. If you weave in traffic you’re in trouble. You try to go home and get arrested, then it’s all a misunderstanding.
n Here’s the scam: Pick the victim up for a ride in the country. Tell him how good the business is. Get his girlfriend involved. Get the $12,500 and trust him 100 percent. Then his wife makes him back out. Keep the money through winter’s pay and then return all but $1,500 of the money. End of scam.
n Take heed, Rush County. It starts right here so clean up your act.
n What a horrible holiday July 4 must be for liberals.
n These taxes are unbelievable! People can’t go on like this. No wonder people are leaving their houses and moving away. It’s sad to watch this. Seems that Indiana is the highest taxed state. I was born in Indiana and used to think it was the best. As I get older I’m rethinking that. All my family moved away to another state and they are much happier.
n Raves, raves and more raves to the marvelous Carmel Symphony Orchestra concert. It was a great crowd and the performers featured well known music and show tunes. The only “classical” piece was the William Tell Overture (the Lone Ranger theme). The event was wonderfully organized. Hope this will be repeated next year!
n I was pleased with the selection of Miss Billieu as the newspaper’s new columnist. I would like to know what town she is from. (I believe she’s a Decatur County resident. kg)
