---- — Franklin County Purdue Extension will host a fruit tree pruning workshop at Michaela Farm from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22. We will begin the program indoors with a lesson on fruit tree pruning with local experts Kris Medic and Chuck VanNatta. After an hour of introductory instruction, we will go out to the orchard for a couple hours of demonstrations and putting our knowledge to use. Please bring your own pruning equipment, so that you can practice and perfect your new knowledge.
We are fortunate to welcome two impressive instructors from Bartholomew County to the ideal learning environment of Michaela Farm. Kris Medic has worked with trees in state forests, public parks, gardens and arboreta, and on city streets. She is now the Bartholomew County Extension Educator in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Economic and Community Development. Kris authored The New American Backyard, published by Rodale in 2001, and Pruning, published in 1995. She is a Board-Certified Master Arborist and past president of the Indiana Arborist Association.
Hobby orchardist Chuck VanNatta tends 100 fruit trees at his home in Bartholomew County. He is the frequent host of orchard tours for preschoolers to seniors, teaching cider-making and pie-baking along the way. In 2013, he was named Senior of the Year by Mill Race Center in Columbus.
Michaela Farm is located at 3127 State Rd. 229, Batesville. Please RSVP to the Franklin County Extension Office with a phone number so we can contact you in case the event is cancelled due to severe weather. Contact the Extension Office with questions and RSVP at 765-647-3511 or email@example.com. Remember to dress for the weather and bring your own pruning equipment for practice and feedback from our experts.
