Farming on the fringe: Estate and business transfer planning

RUSHVILLE — Programs to help individuals, farmers, landowners and family businesses understand various legal and tax issues as well as an update on estate and business transfer is scheduled by Purdue Extension in Greensburg, on Feb. 21 and Aurora on Feb. 22.

The presenter is Gerry Harrison a Purdue Professor in Farm Management Extension and Ag law will present the information and take questions. For nearly 40 years, Gerry remains at the forefront of Purdue Extension for Ag law and selected tax topics as well as Estate and Family Business Transfer Planning.

Gerry will discuss and take questions on the numerous topics: including drainage law, limiting liability for farming activities, property rights, takings law & condemnation; right to farm law; real estate transfer taxation: sales, trades, gifts or die owning it! After a lunch provided at the site, he will tackle land trusts and conservation easements: legal and tax aspects and “isn’t it really all about estate planning”.

Pre-registration is required through the Purdue Extension Offices in Decatur County for the Greensburg program and Dearborn County for the Aurora program.
