The new fertilizer and manure regulations will be effective Feb. 16, 2013. The law sets restrictions on staging both inorganic and manure fertilizers. There are new restrictions on fertilizer application including setback distances based on application method. Producers will also be required to maintain fertilizer application plans.
Those who haul and/or apply manure from CFO’s (confined feeding operations) must hold a category 14 license from the Office of the Indiana State Chemist. Franklin County Purdue Extension will be hosting a discussion on these new regulations and how management practices effect nutrient availability in the field. We are offering this session twice to accommodate different schedules. The discussion will be offered Wednesday March 6, 1-2:30 p.m. and Thursday March 7, 6-7:30 p.m. Both sessions will be held in the commissioner’s meeting room (room 203) of the government center, 1010 Franklin Ave., Brookville. Call Anna Morrow at the extension office with questions 765-647-3511.
