Hoosier farmers recognized for achievements

RUSHVILLE — State Rep. Cindy Ziemke (R-Batesville) congratulates the Moore-Dudgeon-Meyers family from Rush County for receiving the Hoosier Homestead Award. The award recently was presented by Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann and Agriculture Director Gina Sheets at the Indiana Statehouse.

The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes families with farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more. The Moore-Dudgeon-Meyers Farm has been owned and operated by the Moore-Dudgeon-Meyers family since 1830.

Located in Rushville, Ind., they were recognized for their hard work and commitment to agriculture.

“This family is a leading example of agricultural growth in Indiana,” said Rep. Ziemke. “I am proud to have such a successful farm in my district and hope that their perseverance and great work ethic serves as a role model for all.”

The program began in 1976 to acknowledge the contributions these families have made to Indiana agriculture. More than 5,000 farms have been recognized since the program was established.

Two awards ceremonies are held each year, in the spring and summer, to commemorate the achievements of the many outstanding Hoosier farmers across the state.

“Our community is rich in history and tradition,” said Rep. Ziemke. “The Moore-Dudgeon-Meyers family farm has been a staple of those traditions for many years. I wish them more bountiful harvests in the seasons to come.”

(State Rep. Cindy Ziemke represents portions of Rush, Fayette, Franklin, Ripley and Decatur counties.)
