---- — Most people consider the National FFA Organization the greatest student lead organization in the United States or even the world. The FFA has been an organization that has been built on the idea of leadership and hard work. One chapter that has excelled in these categories is the Rushville FFA Chapter.

In the coming year, the Rushville FFA will be celebrating it 75th. In 1940, the Rushville FFA chapter received its charter from the National Future Farmers of America Association and the Indiana Future Farmers of America Association. It became the 137th chapter in Indiana. Over the past 75 years, the Rushville FFA has gone through many changes.

In the Rushville FFA, the chapter has gone through many amazing changes through the years. The first monumental change to occur was in 1974 when the Rushville FFA enrolled the first two females into the chapter. Those two very important women are Elaine Surface-Russell and Belinda Scott. These two women were not only the first two females in the chapter, but they were also the first women to complete four years of vocational agricultural classes at Rushville Consolidated High School. These two were pioneers to the Rushville FFA as the chapter is now predominantly female in this day and age. Another great discover to the Rushville FFA was the hiring of the Mr. Stephen Blair Orme.

Mr. Orme has been a great asset to the chapter. Being a member of the chapter in high school, he went on to Purdue University to study Agricultural Education. He then had the opportunity to come back and teach here. He has now been one of the longest tenured advisors the chapter has had. With also, most people would say, the most successful advisor.

Over the many years of the Rushville FFA, this chapter has been very successful in the many different aspect of what a chapter of the FFA can be. Now serving as the Rushville FFA Student Advisor, I am honored to be a part of this chapter, and to watch it continue to grow and ignite the students of Rushville Consolidated High School.
