Evan Gordon was awarded a 4-H college scholarship Oct. 10 in Danville. He accepted the award during ceremonies at the 2009 Indiana 4-H Congress Award Luncheon at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds and Conference Complex.

Gordon received the Agriculture Scholarship award for his achievements in Rush County 4-H programs. The award, sponsored by Indiana Farm Bureau, Inc., was presented by Carolyn Hegel of the Indiana Farm Bureau. He was a 10-year member of the Union Progressive 4-H Club. The son of Elbert and Diane Gordon, Evan attends Purdue University and is enrolled in the School of Agriculture. He is the grandson of Benno and Nettie Harpring, Maxine Gordon Oldham, and the late Francis Gordon.

The Indiana 4-H Foundation sponsors the annual scholarships for 29 outstanding 4-H youth from around the state. The application process begins in January and awards are announced after interviews are held on the campus of Purdue University.

Incorporated in 1961, the Indiana 4-H Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that raises funds to support 4-H statewide. It contributes more than $150,000 annually to the Indiana 4-H program.

During its more than 100 year history, 4-H has become the largest youth development program in the state with more than 217,000 members and 20,000 volunteers. It reaches youth in both urban and rural areas offering programs that promote leadership and teach a wide variety of skills.
