WEST LAFAYETTE — The Southern Indiana-Purdue Agricultural Center will be the site for a goat and sheep master grazing workshop Saturday.
The workshop, which will begin at 10 a.m., will cover topics on fencing and watering systems, types of forages, increasing forage utilization, how to use a grazing stick, using stockpiled forages, and figuring out optimal stocking rates.
"One of the main goals of the grazing workshop is to provide producers with the latest information and tools on good grazing for sheep and goats," Mike Neary, Purdue's Extension goat and sheep specialist said.
With the increasing price of feedstuffs over the past couple of years, Neary said a workshop goal is to help farmers develop a sufficient grazing program that will help them cut down on costs.
Participants can register the day of the workshop. There is a $10 fee for the first family member and a $5 fee for every additional family member.
This workshop also is being sponsored by the University of Kentucky and Kentucky State University.
The Southern Indiana-Purdue Agricultural Center is located at 11371 E. Purdue Farm Road in Dubois, Ind.
