Agricultural scholarship awarded to high school seniors

RICHMOND (June 16, 2009) - Harvest Land Co-op recently awarded $9,000 in scholarships to high school seniors. Each year, one student per district who will be pursuing a college degree in agriculture is awarded the Harvest Land Co-op Agricultural Scholarship, a $500 award. Each student was chosen based on their future careers, leadership and extracurricular activities and experiences.

The 2009 scholarship recipients and their future plans are Spencer Carson of Hamilton Heights will be attending Purdue University majoring in Animal Science/Pre-Veterinary, Brandi Lightner of Knightstown High School will be majoring in Agriculture Business at Vincennes University or Ivy Tech, Lindsey Lewis from Eastern Hancock High School will attend Purdue University majoring in Animal Agribusiness, Sam Riggs of Rushville High School is attending Black Hawk College majoring in Ag Production, Alex Benham of Batesville High School will major in Diesel/Farm Equipment Technician at Northwestern or Lincoln Tech, Travis Terhaar from Monroe Central High School will major in Agriculture Education at Purdue University, Clayton McGlothin of Greenville High School will major in Agriculture Application Aviation at Sinclair Community College, Kelli Kirtley from Hagerstown Junior/Senior High School will attend Purdue University majoring in Veterinary Medicine, Lindsey Voge of Twin Valley South will major in Animal Science at The Ohio State University, and Michelle Dirksen from Jay County High School will be attending Purdue University majoring in AgEconomics.

Along with the 10 district recipients, eight students of Harvest Land Co-op employees were each awarded with a $500 scholarship. The students are Amanda Fleenor, daughter of Vickie Fleenor, will be attending Ivy Tech Richmond/Muncie to be a Physical Therapy Assistant; MaryBeth Flory, daughter of Mark Gebhart, will major in Medical Massage; David Garretson, son of Mark Garretson, will attend Purdue University majoring in Business Management; Lauren Hendricks, daughter of Richard Hendricks, will major in Nursing at Ball State University; Elizabeth Sellers, daughter of Charles Sellers, will be attending Ivy Tech Richmond/Muncie to major in Nursing; Cody Spencer, son of Greg Spencer, will attend either Edison Community College or Wright State University; Chelsey Whistler, daughter of Richard Whistler, will major in Radiology at IUPUI; and Jacob York, son of Wendy York, will be attending Ball State University to major in Criminal Justice.

Harvest Land Co-op would like to wish these students the best of luck as they continue their education and begin their chosen careers.
